Personal Statement

I began playing volleyball in the fifth grade for a local recreation team following my family moving back to the United States after living in Japan for 5 years. I picked up the sport very quickly. After playing rec ball for a year I wanted to push myself to develop further and started playing club ball at Frisco Flyers on the 12N Black team. Unfortunately I broke my arm in a non-volleyball accident and was out most of the club season. I switched to Instinct Volleyball Club the following year, where our team, 13W Gold, double qualified for USAV Nationals at the Windy City National Qualifier and Mizuno Lone Star Qualifier in the American Division. I was awarded the club’s MVP award at the conclusion of the season. Summer of 2016 I was selected to attend the NTR High Performance camp. At 14s my team, 14W Gold P, double qualified for USAV Nationals at the MEQ National Qualifier and Mizuno Lone Star Qualifier in the USA Division. At USAV Nationals we took the Bronze medal in the USA Division. I was awarded the club’s MVP award at the conclusion of the season for the second year in a row. This year at 15s my team qualified in Open at the Northeast National Qualifier. We also were Silver Champions at Colorado Crossroads and finished 9th at Lone Star qualifier. Summer of 2017 I was selected to attend the NTR High Performance camp and play on the NTR High Performance Team at the HP Championships in Fort Lauderdale. I also played on the A-Team for my middle school, where we were the 7th grade District Runner Up and the 8th Grade District Champs. At Prosper High School I made varsity as a Freshman, where our team won the 2017 5A State Championship. I played as a middle hitter at 12 and 13 and switched to an outside hitter starting at 14.

In college I would like to major in education and teach, while coaching volleyball at both the school and club levels.

Volleyball is my passion. I love competing and push myself to become a better athlete. My coaches appreciate my good attitude, leadership skills and strong work ethic. I take pride in my ability on the court. My dream is to play volleyball for a DI school that is a good match academically, athletically, and where I can make an impact personally.
